DATAWORKS: CONTINUED COMMITMENT TO LOCAL COMMUNITY

  • Over the years Dataworks has forged strong ties to the Waterford Institute of Technology across many departments.

Brian Robinson, CTO of Dataworks, regularly presents to the students of the Higher Diploma in Science in Computer Science. Taking this a step further, an internship with the Dataworks team is offered to a candidate each year. This has proven to be mutually beneficial for both Dataworks and WIT:

“WIT and Dataworks have a long history of working together and we consistently leverage our relationship through the Higher Education Authority ICT Skills conversion programme.  Dataworks have provided students with great exposure to the workplace through first-hand experience of building software, allowing them to put academic theory to practice and assist with personal and professional growth”.  Martina Mullally , ICT Skills Placement Coordinator, Waterford Institute of Technology.

In 2014 Sean Harnett interned at Dataworks as part of his Higher Diploma in Science in Computer Science. With a primary degree in engineering and 10 years’ experience in a number of high level engineering roles Sean proved to be an invaluable member to the team. Once his placement was completed he accepted a full time position as a Software Developer with Dataworks.

This year Dataworks are continuing to work in close partnership with WIT, and owing to the high calibre of candidate, have offered a further two students internships with the company. Eric Colgan and Michael O’Neill, both completing Higher Diploma in Science in Computer Science, are currently working on a number of .NET projects with guidance from the senior development team.

At Dataworks we believe that is important that local businesses provide a chance for students to grow and develop.

Given the software skills shortage nationwide we need to provide opportunities for these skilled students to remain in Waterford, and the wider South East region, once they graduate, or to return to the area in future years.

Here at Dataworks we are always looking for new talent. Would you like to be part of the Dataworks team? If so please send your CV to info@dataworks.ie
